How to Use Baking Soda to Wash Off 96% of All Toxic Pesticides from Your Fruits and Vegetables

Baking soda is one of those products that you can always find a purpose for it. It is truly a magical ingredient that every household should have. One of the many uses of this product is removing the pesticides from any fruit or vegetable.

A team of researchers at the University of Massachusetts has conducted a study on gala apples to determine baking soda’s efficacy in cleaning the fruits.

In the research, the scientist added two of the well-known pesticides thiabendazole and phosmet to organic gala apples. The Thiabendazole is a fungicide that can actually penetrate the apple peels. On the other hand, Phosmet is also a popular insecticide that is widely used.

When the scientist submerged the apples in a baking soda solution for two minutes they found that over 96% of the pesticides ware removed. To get rid of all of the pesticides the baking soda solution needed additional 13-15 minutes time.

How to Use Baking Soda to Wash Produce

You can also use the baking soda to scrub the hard-skinned vegetables and fruits. It is totally eco-friendly and won’t do any harm to the product.

o use it, simply add a few tablespoons of baking soda to a bowl of water when soaking your fruits and vegetables, which should be done a few good minutes before rinsing them with fresh cold water. Or simply scrub the fruit or the vegetable with a brush.

This method is great if you want to enjoy the peel off the product as well. As you know most of the nutrients of the fruits are located in the peel.
