A new study has shown that bitter melon juice, a known fruit in Asia and Africa significantly reduces the growth of cancerous tissue because it disrupts the metabolism of glucose in cancer cells,
thus literally starving the cells without sugar which is the primary fuel, without which they can’t survive.
Although the plant is known for its health benefits, most of the health benefits (antiviral activity, anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic drug, anti-cancerous capacity), only recently became popular in Western medicine.
This herb under the Latin name Momordica charantia is known especially in Japan, particularly in Okinawa, where residents are known for their long lives. In the last four years the effect of this plant on cancer has been investigated. The affect is observed in breast, prostate, colon, liver, stomach, leukemia and other cancers.
The latest study has shown that bitter melon juice acts co-toxically on pancreatic cancer also. The juice causes programmed cell death of cancer cells (apotosis) and more importantly activates AMPK, which is a sign that it disables the metabolism inside the cancer cell, which then becomes incapable of feeding resulting in its death.
