If you’re one of those people who doesn’t throw the food but leave it for later, it is important to know which food you can consume as leftover.

There are some foods that when you warm them up they can be dangerous for our health. In today’s article, we will show you which foods you should definitely avoid to reheat them and consume.

Vegetables

According to the Center for Food Safety vegetables that are leftover should be stored at -4 C. spinach, beets, lettuce, and celery contain high levels of nitrates when they are kept as a leftover on a room temperature they can be quite dangerous. As studies show nitrate can cause methemoglobinemia in children, a rare blood disorder which causes symptoms such as seizures. Other problems may appear as well such as fatigue and shortness of breath.

Vegetable oil

Foods that are cocked with vegetable oil should not be repeated for the second time. Studies show that this practice may increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.polyunsaturated oils that contain linoleic acid. Such oils are sunflower oil, canola and corn oil. They realize hydroxy-trans-2-nominal (HNE) which are a toxin made of fatty acids. This toxin is linked to heart disease, liver problems, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and some types of cancer. Therefore, this oils should be used only once.

Chicken

Chicken meat contains a lot of protein, so when it’s heated for the second time, its composition alters to a more dangerous one.

Rice

The Food Standard Agency suggest that if the rice isn’t cooked properly, it contains spores of harmful bacteria that often live through the initial cooking process, and to top that off, if your leftover rice is not stored at the right temperature these spores multiply rapidly and may lead to indigestion, and in worst case, diarrhea and vomiting. Therefore if you plan to eat the rice another time it is best to freeze it.
