This Photographer Removes Phones From His Images And The Results Are A Disturbing Reality Check!

It is no secret that smart phones changed our lives forever, in many different aspects. Most people are disconnected from the real social lives because of their phones. It doesn’t sound so scary as it looks. That’s why Eric Pickersgill released a series of photographs from everyday life with a little adjustment: removing all electronic devices!

The so called project “Removed” was inspired when Eric was sitting in a local café place and he noticed something very strange.

“Family sitting next to me at Illium café in Troy, NY is so disconnected from one another. Not much talking. Father and two daughters have their own phones out. Mom doesn’t have one or chooses to leave it put away. She stares out the window, sad and alone in the company of her closest family. Dad looks up every so often to announce some obscure piece of info he found online. Twice he goes on about a large fish that was caught. No one replies. I am saddened by the use of technology for interaction in exchange for not interacting. This has never happened before and I doubt we have scratched the surface of the social impact of this new experience. Mom has her phone out now.”

Below you can see some disturbing images that Eric has posted on his website:

We need to stop and think about what is important in our life. This project reminds us how we replace our physical presence with our electric devices. It is time to stop and think about what is best for us, do we really want to pass our lives with our eyes stuck in our phone.
