This is Why You Should Never Put Tilapia In Your Mouth Again (from cancer to inflammation)

One of the most popular fish in US is tilapia, it is a farmed fish, not very expensive and delicious. Recent studies reveal that this type of fish can have negative effect on your heath and it turned out that tilapia farming in China affects both environment and public health.

It is very easy to find on the market, it may be both skinless and boneless. What it makes it tasty because it doesn’’t have that distinguishing fishy taste.

The main problem with tilapia is the origin , where it comes from, where is cultivated. It is hard to find a wild tilapia especially in restaurants, usually is farmed. So by that first this fish doesn’’t eat the lake plants and algae wild tilapia eats. In other words, farm-bred fish does not have those healthy fish oils. To be more direct this farm fish has almost no health benefits.

Why farm-bred tilapia is so unhealthy


Recent studies prove that farm-raised tilapia may cause severe inflammation. In case of asthma, heart disease, and arthritis. It may have a negative effect of the healing process.

There is a terrifying misbelief amongst people who believe they are getting enough omega-3 fats from tilapia which is supposed to decrease their risk of sudden heart attack, but reality is quite different. Tilapia is a greater risk factor for underlying inflammations than smoked bacon or juicy hamburgers.

Cancer causing pollutants

Unlike farm-bred tilapia, wild fish is safe from cancerogens and chemicals. Scientists have found traces of nitrofuran and malachite green, a dye, in farm fish. These are dangerous carcinogens, known for their disastrous effect.

Pesticides and antibiotics

There are some things that are never meant to be mensioned together like Fish farming, pesticides and antibiotics, but sadly  this is not the case of tilapia, as shown on several occasions. Farmed fish is bred in tightly packed ponds, so diseases are nothing uncommon here.

To resist the diseases and inflammation, the fish are consuming antibiotics and pesticides. Pesticides can be very negative and environmental hazarded because can end up into the sea, imagine this is the same one to kill these are used to kill sea lice. The final result is intoxicated marine life, which is a severe problem to those who like their seafood.

Low omega-3 to omega-6 ratio

What the expert suggest that excessive omega-6 fatty acids consumption can make the body prone to inflammations. The imbalance of fatty acids is the reason why food has such a bad effect on our tissues. Farm-bred tilapia lacks healthy nutrients when compared to wild species. Farmed fish has a low ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats, 11 to 1, so farm-raised tilapia is not as healthy as wild fish.

High dioxin level

This is very common to find high level of dioxin in farm-bred fish.This might sound disturbing but even short term exposure to dioxins can cause skin lesions and negatively effect the function of your liver. Long-term exposure to dioxins has been shown to impair the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system and reproductive functions as well. Chronic exposure to dioxins has result in several types of cancer.

The conclusion is that the farmed tilapia doesn’t contain healthy nutrients, so try to chose some healthier varieties or if you can find wild tilapia for it.
